Dwyane Wade Day-To-Day With Calf Injury, ‘Heard It Pop’

Fresh off a scintillating All-Star performance in Dallas this past weekend, it appears Dwyane Wade is headed to the injured list. Last night against New Jersey, the Miami superstar landed awkwardly after a rebound, and after taking two steps, removed himself from the game.

From the Associated Press, we have some explanation from Wade:

"It's sore right now," Wade said after being limited to eight points in the Heat's 87-84 win. "We'll see how I feel over the next day or so. We'll take it day by day and see how it's going. If it doesn't get better, we'll take a MRI. Right now, I'll just get treatment and do the therapy."

"I just pushed off when I came down with the rebound," he said. "I just heard it pop. I thought to myself 'Whoa.' I took two more steps and stopped."

And while a strained calf sounds innocuous enough, reading that description from Wade, you can’t blame Heat fans for clamming up a little bit. “Heard it pop” is never something you want to hear from your superstar. And Heat coach Eric Spoelstra isn’t helping much, either. “To see somebody hobble off like that, you’re thinking the worst.”

For now, it’s a calf strain. For the sake of Heat fans and NBA fans, in general, let’s hope that’s the end of it. Wade’s day-to-day for now, and unlikely to play Friday vs. Memphis. Beyond that? Keep your fingers crossed, Heat fans.
