Howard, Wizards Mount Stunning Comeback, Knock Out Nuggets 107-97
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Just days after arriving in Washington via separate trades, Al Thornton and Josh Howard combined for 41 points to lead the Wizards to a 107-97 victory over the visiting Denver Nuggets.
Thornton finished with a team-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Howard went 8-of-11 from the floor for 20 points for the Wizards, who have won two in a row and five of eight despite dealing away several of their best players at the trade deadline to clear salary cap space.
Andray Blatche provided 18 points -- all in the first half -- and 11 rebounds while Nick Young and Earl Boykins had 12 points apiece in the win for Washington, its first over Denver in six tries.
Chauncey Billups had 28 points to lead the Nuggets, who were coming off an exciting overtime win over Cleveland on Thursday. Carmelo Anthony contributed 23 points and seven rebounds, while Nene had 17 points and nine boards in defeat.
