An assist on Kimmo Timmonen’s second goal in a 5-0 win over Germany gave Teemu Selanne another piece of history in addition to a second lopsided victory for Finland.
Teemu Selanne Sets Olympic Scoring Record
Selanne is now in sole possession of the Olympic scoring record in a hockey career with 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points achieved throughout five Winter Games beginning in 1992. He tied the record on Wednesday with an assist against Belarus.
“I’m not a big numbers guy, especially when I’m still playing, but maybe one day I’ll look back,” Selanne said in a TV interview after the game. “I’ve obviously played a long time and played with great players who helped make this possible. It’s a nice honor.”
The Finns have outscored their opponents 10-1 thus far and re-new the rivalry with Sweden on Sunday, whose players haven’t been very convincing.
