Sweden’s Johan Olsson jumped to a large lead Saturday, but teammate Marcus Hellner edged past him before the end to win the gold in Saturday’s 30K cross-country medal round.
Sweden’s Marcus Hellner Rallies Past Teammate To Take Gold In Cross-Country
Olsson’s lead, which was greater than 20 seconds at one point, evaporated within the final ten kilometers of the race. Hellner won with a time of 1:15:11.4. Germany’s Tobias Angerer, who won the silver, reached the finish line 2.1 seconds behind. Olsson finished 2.8 seconds behind.
With the gold and silver medals earned in this event, Sweden now has eight medals in the 2010 Games.
