In Saturday’s 1000m short track spped skating event, Apolo Anton Ohno came up just short in his bid for a gold medal. But he did successfully break Bonnie Blair’s record to become the most decorated American in the history of the Winter Olympics, winning bronze, bring his career medal count to seven.

A pair of South Koreans took gold and silver, with Lee Jung-Su winning gold with a time of 1:23.747, and Lee Ho-Suk following him with 1:23.801. For Lee Jung-Su, it was his second gold medal of the games.
As for Ohno, his race nearly ended in disaster when he slipped on a turn, but he was able to salvage the performance by overtaking a pair of Canadian brothers, Charles and Francois Hamelin, and finishing third. Afterward, NBC cameras caught Ohno saying the following, “One mistake. One mistake. That’s how crazy this sport is.”
Indeed, a split-second miscue from Ohno and he’d ceded control to the South Koreans and Canadians. And while Ohno was talented enough to steal a spot on the podium from the Hamelin brothers, he couldn’t match the South Koreans.
