Time’s Sean Gregory has tweeted that remarks published from Olympian Lindsey Vonn on Friday were on the record. I’m not exactly sure who was asking, because her remarks on Tiger Woods didn’t seem terribly controversial:
Lindsey Vonn’s Remarks On Tiger Were On The Record, Mildly Funny
↵↵When a member of her Vonn-tourage tells her that Woods gave a few friends hugs after ending his statement, she cracks, “They’re like, ‘Yeah, you’re awesome, you go have that sex.’ ” The room breaks into a laugh. Then she describes a skit she would want to perform if asked to host Saturday Night Live: picture Vonn at Woods’ podium, blue backdrop and all. “There’s something you don’t know about me,” Vonn says in a faux solemn, apologetic voice. “Tiger, you’re like my idol, and I too have a sex problem.”
↵↵“Vonn-tourage?” More like “entourage,” am I right? Anyway, I could only see Vonn’s remarks as offensive in the sense that she used the hackiest subject material possible -- there are no more funny jokes to make about Tiger Woods’ infidelity, in part because there were few to begin with. It’s Lewinsky material -- in other words, comedy poison. Points for the angle, though, I suppose.
↵UPDATE: I was just contacted by Sean Gregory. As for the on-the-record issue itself, it was suggested by @YahooSportsOLY that Time Magazine was cut off from Vonn for printing off-the-record comments. Gregory’s tweet was to clarify that they were, in fact, on the record, and @YahooSportsOLY has since concurred.
