MMA Weekly with news of the newest planned addition to the WEC’s first foray into the PPV market:
First WEC PPV Continues Coming Together: Jamie Varner v. Kamal Shalorus
The upcoming WEC pay-per-view card will look to add some more fire to the lightweight contender’s race as former champion, Jamie Varner, is expected to meet Kamal Shalorus in a bout on the April 24 card.
Varner told MMAWeekly.com in an interview on Monday that is the fight he is expected to take for the upcoming show in Sacramento.
“Looks like I’m fighting Kamal Shalorus on that card,” said Varner on Monday.
After dealing with eye and foot injuries that kept him out of action for a year, Varner is ready to get back into action and hopes to maintain a very busy schedule in 2010. First up is Kamal Shalorus, and then hopefully a title shot later this year.
Varner looks to rebound from his first loss 2006. WEC lightweight champ Benson Henderson was able to secure a third round guillotine choke that put away Varner this past January.
Shalorus is undefeated at 6-0-1 and his January win over Dave Jansen was extremely impressive. If Kamal can close distance and put Varner on his back he may be able to work his way to a decision victory in what will be the biggest fight of his career.
