Tony Kornheiser Suspended By ESPN For Hannah Storm Comments; Open The Stupidity Flood Gates

Tony Kornheiser has been suspended by ESPN from Pardon The Interruption for “a few days,” according to The Big Lead. The punishment is a result of comments he made on his radio show about SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm, which can be read in full at Sporting News.

↵But back to TBL, who got the scoop on the suspension, then promptly wrote one of the most ridiculous, contradictory posts you’ll ever read. It begins ...

↵↵Silly suspension. Storm’s Sportscenter wardrobe for nearly two years has been embarrassing. Male anchors are dressed in suits; Storm frequently wears outfits that you might see on a cougar at a bar. Is she going dancing or talking about the Kentucky Wildcats?

↵↵If TBL thinks all female TV personalities should be dressed in pants suits, then fine. Misogynistic perhaps, but that’s his right. But Kornheiser wasn’t suspended for being wrong about Storm’s outfits; he was suspended for publicly making personal attacks towards a co-worker.

↵But here’s where it gets good. After stating that ESPN needs to force Storm to be more conservative in her dress, TBL writes ...

↵↵Furthermore, ESPN must loosen up. (We thought this problem had been solved over the last year – the network had come a long way from the early 00’s – but apparently not.) Why can’t it have its top talent – Bill Simmons, Tony Kornheiser, etc – making commentary about the media? Colin Cowherd opened his show today talking about Mike Wilbon’s silly take on Tiger. Is he going to be suspended next?

↵↵This Cowherd example would be germane had he followed up his criticism of Wilbon’s take on Tiger by mocking Wilbon’s weight. See, there’s a difference between disagreeing with a co-worker’s opinion, and mocking their appearance.

↵So, to recap: ESPN needs to loosen up, generally speaking, with the exception being how they allow their women folk to go into public. Then they must tighten up. Remember, kids: You can’t be wrong if you take both sides of an argument.

↵UPDATE: Per John Ourand, ESPN has suspended Kornheiser for two weeks and said his comments were “entirely inappropriate” “hurtful” and “personal.”
