In what’s become a highly anticipated annual event, on Tuesday Baseball America went public with its list of the top 100 prospects of 2010. You can view the list here.
Baseball America Releases 2010 Top 100 Prospects List
In what should come as little surprise to anyone, the top honor went to Braves outfielder Jason Heyward, who last season hit .323/.408/.555 between A-ball and AAA as a 19 year old. Heyward moved up from No. 5 a year ago, and No. 28 the year before.
The second slot went to last year's first overall pick in the draft, Stephen Strasburg. Florida's Mike Stanton, New York's Jesus Montero, and Baltimore's Brian Matusz round out the top five.

This list, of course, gives no weighting to where on the list each team’s players showed up, meaning it’s not the best measure of system strength. The Yankees, for example, only have two players on the list, but one of them is fourth overall. Meanwhile, the Angels have three, but their ranks are 84, 85, and 97. Still, we can see that the Rays are in pretty good shape, while the Cardinals, not so much.
Notably, while the Rangers have four names on the list, three of them slot in at 17 and above. Between Neftali Feliz, Justin Smoak, Martin Perez, and the graduated Elvis Andrus and Derek Holland, Texas is sitting on a goldmine.
