Jaromir Jagr’s In

Still feeling the aftermath of Alexander Ovechkin’s hit, Jaromir Jagr left yesterday’s qualifying-round game for the Czech Republic early in the second period with a sore neck. Although the former Pittsburgh Penguins superstar insisted that his mistake was all that hurt, the team doctor stated the soreness came from Ovechkin’s check. Without his presence, the Czechs had to dodge a mullet bullet against Latvia, blowing a two-goal lead and winning in overtime.

“We hope he’ll be available to play tomorrow,” Czech coach Vladimir Ruzicka said after his team’s narrow victory. “We believe he will be ready. And obviously, we’re hoping he can play the whole game.”

Jagr finished with seven shifts and the Czech offense was out of sync following his exit. If he can’t play today against Finland, it would be an awful way to end the Olympic career of a legend.
