Canada dominated Russia from start to finish, crushing Ovechkin and Company 7-3 to move on to the semifinals. The Russians are eliminated with the loss.
Canada Asserts Itself In Dominant Fashion, Beats Russia 7-3
In their loss to the Americans on Sunday night, the Canadians looked arrogant. They didn’t play with fire from the opening puck drop and the scrappy USA team made them pay. In their convincing victory over Russia tonight at Canada Hockey Place, they corrected those mistakes.
From the get go, Canada was all over Russia. Ovechkin, Malkin and company didn’t even have a prayer. They peppered Russian goaltender Evgeni Nabokov with shots, and just two minutes, 21 seconds in they proved that this game would be different than the one with the Americans. Ryan Getzlaf scored to give Canada a 1-0 lead and the home team (even though Russia was technically the home team) would never look back.

He’s not there to score many goals; he’s simply an experienced veteran who is there to provide support and a lot of energy while he’s out there. His ice time has been cut back in the tournament and he’s seen a lot more bench than he’s used to seeing.
With less than two minutes left in the first period, Morrow proved that he still has a lot of worth left. With the puck behind the net, Morrow walked right in from of Evgeni Nabokov and just jammed the puck into the net. Nabokov’s presence was merely a road block that he plowed right through.

Canada is applying a ton of pressure early on in this quarterfinal contest, and less than three minutes from the start, Ryan Getzlaf has made it pay off.
Dan Boyle carried the puck through the Russian zone to the right of goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. As he threw it to center, Getzlaf broke away form his defender and banged the pass into an open net before Nabokov could get across his crease in time.
