Ryan Getzlaf Gives Canada Early 1-0 Lead

Canada is applying a ton of pressure early on in this quarterfinal contest, and less than three minutes from the start, Ryan Getzlaf has made it pay off.

Dan Boyle carried the puck through the Russian zone to the right of goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. As he threw it to center, Getzlaf broke away form his defender and banged the pass into an open net before Nabokov could get across his crease in time.

It’s the opposite of the early first period proceedings we saw when the USA took it to Canada from the start on Sunday. This time, the Canadians have the crowd, they have the energy, they have the momentum and now they have the lead.
