Short track speed skating gave another example of why it’s one of the most unpredictable and exciting sports in the Winter Olympics when South Korea was disqualified Wednesday night after winning the Women’s 3000m Relay.
America Takes Bronze In Women’s Short Track 3000m Relay
After the team from South Korea crossed the finish line first, judges determined that they interfered with the Chinese team. As a result, they were disqualified, and the gold went to China. The silver was claimed by Canada while the United States benefited the most, jumping into medal position for the bronze.
South Korea's Kim was in the lead when her left skate blade clicked with the right blade of China's Sun. From there, South Korea's Park pulled away to a big lead before her teammate Cho finished off what they thought was a record fifth gold medal.
It is the first medal in the event for the U.S. since 1994.
