Here’s a quick look at the payouts for the main card portion of the Strikeforce: Miami event that took place last weekend.
Strikeforce: Miami Fighter Salaries Raise Some Questions
↵Nick Diaz $100,000 - Marius Zaromskis $30,000
↵Diaz defeated Zaromskis via TKO (strikes)
↵Cris “Cyborg” Santos $35,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win, $5,000 championship bonus) - Marloes Coenen $2,000
↵Santos defeated Coenen via TKO (strikes)
↵Herschel Walker $600 - Greg Nagy $5,000
↵Walker defeated Nagy via TKO (strikes)
↵Robbie Lawler $100,000 - Melvin Manhoef $5,000
↵Lawler defeated Manhoef via KO (punch)
↵Bobby Lashley $50,000 - Wes Sims $25,000
↵Lashley defeated Sims via TKO (strikes)
↵Anything jump out at you? Like... maybe a $70,000 discrepancy in pay between the two fighters in the main event. Or how about the fact that one of the fighters in the card’s co-main event was rewarded for her efforts with a whopping $2,000.
↵Sure, those payouts raise some eyebrows, but the most glaring difference in salaries between two competitors from the show is the payout for the Robbie Lawler and Melvin Manhoef fight. Those numbers are not a misprint. Lalwer earned $95,000 more than Manhoef did.
↵If you’re also concerned with the fact that the fighter who drew the most attention from the night’s festitvities only received $600, keep in mind that Walker publicly stated that his purse would be donated to charity.
↵As for the others, we can only hope that some of them are also being compensated by the other promotions that have them under contract, (i.e. Zaromskis and Manhoef with DREAM) because if not, yet another another red flag has been raised concerning the Strikeforce promotion.
