No matter how intense you think your workout is, there is always someone else who finds it boring, and immediately looks for a way to improve upon it. For example: going for a run. To you, that may be a great way to get some exercise; to others, though, it is dull, and severely lacking stairs. And thus, the Empire State Building Run-Up was created.
German Runner Climbs 1,576 Stairs In 10 Minutes And 16 Seconds
↵It is exactly what it sounds like -- a race up the stairs to the top of the Empire State Building. It’s 86 flights, and 1,576 stairs, and on Tuesday, German Thomas Dold completed it in 10:16, capturing his fifth title.
↵↵“It’s unbelievable. I pushed as hard as possible and ran as fast as my legs could carry me,” said Dold, 25, who finished the 33rd annual competition in ten minutes and 16 seconds. [...]
↵“I can deal with the burning legs, but the stomach cramps are tough to swallow,” said Dani Zylberberg, 25, a student from Manhattan, as he reached the observation deck. “The air was so dry and hot I thought my lungs were going to explode,” he said. “But once you see the view from the top, it’s all worth it.”
↵↵Makes taking the elevator up to the second floor seem a tad lazy now, doesn’t it?
