Anaheim Ducks Benefiting From Bad Calls

In last year’s postseason, the Anaheim Ducks were the beneficiaries of a quick whistle preventing the Detroit Red Wings from tying the score in game three of the second round. While it didn’t prove to affect the series as Detroit prevailed in seven games, it was the start of a trend that has carried over to the 2010 regular season with Anaheim gaining momentum from terrible decisions.

↵That was the incident from the playoffs. A few weeks ago, Bobby Ryan was credited with a goal which appeared to have struck his gloves. If it didn’t his his hands, it hit the stick which was well above the cross bar. The goal was allowed and Anaheim would win that contest with Buffalo by one goal. You can see the sequence below.

↵The third example occurred last night as Kyle Chipchura tipped in a puck with his hand pass Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard. Clearly, he took his hand off of the stick to deflect it and yet the goal stood. Is there a new rule allowing the use of hands for scoring? Chalk another brutal decision up to the war room in Toronto.

↵Once, maybe. Twice; okay that can happen. But three awful calls going in favor of the Anaheim Ducks in less than a year? These have bad odor all over them and the league can only call it a coincidence for so long.
