In Progress: Richmond Brings Big Lead Into Halftime, Hopes To Upset No. 17 Temple

Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Kevin Anderson scored a game-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting and pulled down five rebounds, as Richmond upended 19th- ranked Temple, 71-54, in an Atlantic 10 matchup from Robins Center.

David Gonzalvez had 13 points and seven boards for the Spiders (18-6, 7-2 A-10), who have won four straight games and six of their last seven overall. Richmond, which has won its last three games over ranked opponents, shot 57.8 percent from the field and made 9-of-16 three-point attempts.

Lavoy Allen finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds to pace the Owls (19-5, 7-2), who had won eight of their last nine games. Ramone Moore also logged 17 points for Temple, which struggled from the floor in making just 32.1 percent of its shots.

Richmond got off to a tremendous start, scoring nine of the game’s first 10 points, and led 24-13 after Gonzalvez muscled his way down the lane and swatted his own miss off the glass with about nine minutes to go in the opening half.

The Spiders used a 12-0 run later in the frame to stretch the advantage to 38-17 on a Darien Brothers jumper, and settled for a 44-26 lead at halftime.

Temple trailed 53-30 after an Anderson layup, but whittled its deficit to eight with a 19-4 surge. Allen scored nine consecutive points during the run that pulled the Owls to within 57-49 with about six minutes left.

Anderson sank a free throw to complete a three-point play and push the lead back to 17 in the late stages.

Anderson fell two points shy of his career high...Ryan Butler scored 12 points for Richmond...The Spiders improved to 11-1 at home...Temple still leads the series with Richmond, 8-7.
