There’s a strong possibility the first time you ever heard of Sochi was during the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Well you’re going to hear a lot more about it in the future when it hosts the 2014 games. Expect to see Mother Russia pull out all the stops to improve on their medal-winning performance (or lackthereof) by then.
Sochi, Russia...You’re Officially On The Clock
↵So what do we know about Sochi?
- ↵↵It’s a resort town 900 miles south of Moscow bordering The Black Sea.
- ↵ Expect to see former No. 1-ranked tennis star Yevgeny Kafelnikov lighting some sort of torch, that’s his hometown.
↵The World Wildlife Fund and Greenpeace are already protesting Sochi over claims that they are destroying animal habitats to make room for the Olympic Game needs. Luge > Animals.
↵Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will be there. Try not to make eye contact. Even through the TV. Just in case.
↵↵Of course, there’s plenty of time before we get to 2014 and have to worry about all of this. That is, as one Tweeter noted, if we even get there:
↵
↵Why are there Winter Olympics even scheduled for 2014? Doesn't the world end in 2012?
