Concussions are bad. Okay, that’s not news. But, thankfully, the NFL finally seems to be catching on. And that’s in large part due to the awareness raised by the work of Chris Nowinski and Dr. Ann McKee, who founded the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy (i.e. brain problems).
NFL Players Donate Brains For Concussion Research, Prove They Have Them
↵Already, roughly 250 current and former NFL players have agreed to donate their brains for future study, as doctors study the long-term effects of chronic concussions. But beyond the whole helping-science-and-future-generations-of-football-players, there are plenty of good reasons for NFL players to join the center. Like letting the world know you did have a brain, as former Buffalo Bill guard Conrad Dobler explains:
↵↵But if I’m going to be cremated anyway because I don’t feel like laying in a casket and having worms eat my body for eternity. My brain will live forever to help some others, and to let the world know that I actually had one.
