Dan Carcillo of the Philadelphia Flyers has a reputation for being a bit of a loose cannon. That’s why it was no surprise on Thursday night when, after a scrum in front of the net with a few Boston Bruins players, he shoved linesman Greg Devorski, an obvious no-no in any sport. The writer whom you are currently reading attended the game and said immediately as the play happened, ’yeah, uh.... that’s a suspension.’
Dan Carcillo Shoves An Official, Who Then Opts Not To Suspend Him
↵You likely have that same opinion, so you’ll be shocked to learn that while Carcillo received a minor penalty and a 10 minute misconduct on the play, he won’t be suspended for the incident.
↵Ironically, the decision was left in left Devorski’s hands, and he cut the Flyers a break, CSNPhilly.com was told.
↵
“I have spoken to Stephen Walkom about the play,” said Colin Campbell, the NHL’s Lord of Discipline in an e-mail to CSNPhilly.com.
“And IF Greg Devorski, who was the linesman with Carcillo, decided Carcillo needed discipline, they could apply three, 10 or 20 games themselves under Rule 41, Abuse of Officials. They decided not to and I am fine with their decision.”
↵The linesman gets shoved in the face by Carcillo and then decides not to suspend him? That’s impressive restraint right there.
