If you had any sense, I hope you weren’t watching what 18,000-plus at the Fieldhouse in Indianapolis just witnessed during the first half of the Purdue-Minnesota Big Ten semifinal.
I’m Not Crying Wolf This Time: Purdue Really Is Setting Basketball Back 100 Years
↵The Boilermakers, who some folks have pegged as a potential two seed in next week’s NCAA Tournament, simply put up a performance that was nearly historically bad.
↵They managed 11 points to Minnesota’s 37, a total that would have been just nine had JaJuan Johnson not hit a jumper with under two seconds on the clock.
↵I know the Boilermakers are without Robbie Hummel, but his absence is really no excuse for shooting 18.5 percent from the field, 25 percent from the foul line and 0-for-6 from three-point land.
↵The sad thing is, Purdue’s laughable half isn’t even the worst performance by a team over 20 minutes this season. That “honor” goes to New Hampshire, who tied a shot clock-era record by scoring seven (yes, 7) in the first half of their loss at Pitt back in December.
↵Now, as the second half is about to unfold, I’m going to go ahead and make an adjustment to my next projection.
