Report: Houston Coach Tom Penders To Retire, Billy Gillispie Possible Replacement

On Saturday, Houston defeated UTEP to win the C-USA tournament. Meanwhile, SNY’s Adam Zagoria reports that Houston head coach Tom Penders is planning to retire at the end of the season. Zagoria tweets:

He also offers this interesting tidbit:

Former Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie & UT asst Rodney Terry candidates to replace Penders at Houston, sources said

Penders is the eighth coach to take four different teams to the NCAA Tournament. In addition to leading Houston to the dance this year, he’s also coached tournament teams for Rhode Island, Texas, and George Washington.
