The newest member of the Browns was introduced to the media on Wednesday afternoon. Jake Delhomme answered questions on his interest in the Saints, why he chose Cleveland and what his role will be.
Jake Delhomme Not Guaranteed The Starting Job In Cleveland
SB Nation’s Dawgs By Nature has a thorough rundown of the entire press conference but the big nugget was this:
“I was not guaranteed anything. I want to make that perfectly clear. I was guaranteed a chance to compete, very simple. There were no guarantees whatsoever. That’s the honest to god’s truth. I am here to compete and just be me. That’s what I’m here to do.”
Delhomme’s saying all the right things -- and maybe even telling the truth -- but Browns football czar Mike Holmgren has made it clear he doesn’t like quarterback competitions and Delhomme is getting paid $7 million per year.
So you do the math. I think he’s the starter barring injury.
