For the first time in the school’s storied 83 year history, Michigan will flip on the light switch for a night home game, fittingly against rival Notre Dame, on Sept 10, 2011. Michigan has played games into the early evening before, and used temporary lights. Tradition is something that the Big 10 likes to hold onto and new Michigan Athletic Director -- and former Domino’s pizza CEO -- Dave Brandon wants this to be a new tradition:
Michigan Enters The 20th Century With First Ever Night Game
↵↵“For us, obviously, this is an experiment, this is the first time we’ve done it,” Brandon said Thursday. “Hopefully we’ll just get better and better at it, and if all goes well we’d love to at least have one game a year scheduled at Michigan Stadium. It’d be a terrific tradition to start.”
↵↵The previous leadership under Bill Martin was dead set against a night game being played at Michigan because of the amount of tailgating that would take place. A night game provides a different atmosphere and with Notre Dame being the opponent, there is no doubt this will be a nationally televised game which will spotlight the Wolverines, whether it be good or bad.
↵The one big question is, will Rich Rodriquez will be on the sidelines for this game.
