Former driver Larry Pearson, injured in the legends race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, is listed in fair condition following surgery to repair a compound fracture of his lower left ankle.
Larry Pearson In Fair Condition After Brutal Wreck
↵Pearson, the son of all-time great David Pearson, was driving the No. 21 car when he spun with only a few laps remaining and was T-boned by Charlie Glotzbach in the drivers side door.
↵Safety workers had to cut the roof of Pearson’s car to extricate him, and he was taken to a local hospital. He sustained a broken ankle, hip and right hand.
↵The speedway quoted Pearson’s family as saying he was very sore but stable and “came out of surgery OK.”
↵He remain hospitalized for at least another day and will eventually need to undergo hip surgery, the family said.
↵Glotzbach, who also had to be helped from his car, is reportedly listed in good condition and is feeling better.
↵UPDATE (3/23): Pearson was moved from Bristol to a Charlotte-area hospital on Tuesday. Glotzbach was still hospitalized but listed in good condition.
