I am not married, nor have I ever been. But I’ve seen enough rom-coms and late 1990s sit-coms to know that on a honeymoon, you pick a tropical location, relax in a hammock, sip a drink garnished with a pineapple wedge and generally try to forget about the worries of the world (when not in the hotel room, of course). Apparently Wesley Korir does not share that ideal. Because on his honeymoon, he went out and ran 26.2 miles in just a shade over two hours to win the Los Angeles Marathon.
L.A. Marathon Won By A Honeymooning Wesley Korir
↵↵Pulling away from a pair of fellow Kenyan countrymen in the 25th mile, Wesley Korir defended his Los Angeles Marathon title Sunday morning by winning in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 20 seconds. It was the third-fastest time in race history and about a minute behind the 2:08:24 Korir ran last year in setting the race record.
↵Korir, who is honeymooning in Los Angeles this week after marrying his college sweetheart a week ago, became the first repeat winner since Stephen Ndungo of Kenya in 2001-02.
↵↵You might say, his marriage hit the ground running!
↵(I’ll show myself out.)
