The internet has really disappointed me thus far. It’s criminal that there’s not yet been a blog dedicated soley to tracking Stephon Marbury’s exploits in China. Alas, at least we have the Reuters newsfeed. He won MVP in this weekend’s Chinese Basketball Association All-Star Game:
Alley-Hoops! Starbury’s A Hit In China’s All-Star Game
↵
↵The former Minnesota, New Jersey, Phoenix, New York Knicks and Boston point guard, twice an NBA All Star, scored 30 points at Beijing's Wukesong Arena to lift his North team to a 133-121 victory over the South Sunday.
↵More than just his scoring, it was his array of "no-look passes, alley-hoops and mid-court three-pointers" that won Marbury Most Valuable Player honors and rescued what had been "quite a dull game," according to the Xinhua news agency.
↵
↵Say it with me now: ALLEY-HOOPS!
↵At the moment, I’m wearing a t-shirt from the 2001 NBA All-Star Game in D.C. Along with Allen Iverson—the Michael Jackson to Marbury’s Prince—Steph led a stirring comeback in that game, and nearly earned MVP honors. The trophy went to Iverson, who went on to the Finals that year and several future All-Star appearances. For Marbury, that 01 All-Star Game might have been the peak.
↵Remember when people used to debate Michael Jackson vs. Prince? It looked like a blowout after Thriller and Marbury’s Knicks tenure, but now? Okay, AI vs. Steph is still a blowout. But at least Marbury’s still doin his thing, right?
