There is at least one person excited to see Tim Tebow leave Florida, and that is redshirt junior wide receiver Deonte Thompson. Thompson, who was supposed to be the number one receiver last year, but fell to the third spot, should not be running his mouth about the best player in school history. Especially since some question if Thompson is a “real” pass-catcher after he had more drops then touchdowns last year.
Deonte Thompson Is Excited For A Real Quarterback At Florida
↵And now, he may have firmly inserted his foot into his mouth with these gems:
↵↵“You never know with Tim,” Thompson said. “He can bolt. You think he’s running but he’ll come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready. With Brantley, everything’s with rhythm, with time. You know, a real quarterback.”
↵↵Good move talking about Tebow, who was an integral part in winning two national titles, and a great way to earn the fans’ love. Then there is this quote, in which Thompson blames Tebow for his own lack of success:
↵↵“Lot of things didn’t go the way as planned,” Thompson said. “Things are going to get better here in the future. Any receiver would be happy. You have a guy like (John) Brantley throwing the ball, spreading it around to everybody.
↵↵
So, it was Tebow's fault that you were the third receiver and had only four touchdowns last year? SB Nation's Alligator Army puts this in a little more perspective for both sides:
↵↵Those taking a more objective view would note that Thompson was the third read, so he wouldn’t get thrown to, despite the presence of his right hand in the air and spinning around. Hopefully this means that Deonte is going to score more than four touchdowns this season, too.
↵↵Deonte Thompson better be ready to put up or shut up this year, because the only bigger person left to throw under the bus is Urban Meyer.
