Tim Tebow Unlikely To Attend The Draft; Can Mope In Privacy

Peter King, who is bound to be a trusted media confidant to Tim Tebow for as long as the former Gator plays in the NFL, comes through with a quote in his latest weekly column that indicates that Tebow will most likely decline the invitation that he was extended to be in attendance at the NFL Draft next month. ↵↵⇥And he said he hasn’t decided whether to accept the NFL’s invitation to attend the draft in New York -- though he sounded like he wouldn’t. ↵⇥↵⇥“I’ve got to figure out what will be more fun for me and best for my family,” he said. “But I have to say I liked what [Cleveland tackle] Joe Thomas did on the day of the draft a couple of years ago -- he went fishing with his dad.”↵⇥

↵↵↵It’s a wise decision. Other than for sentimental purposes, or possibly to grant sponsors the image of the player at the podium with the no. 1 jersey of their new team, there isn’t much incentive for a prospect to be on hand for the Draft. Especially when any canned quote can be just as easily given over the phone.↵

↵↵Most who hope to see Tebow attend the NFL Draft do so because they want to see a situation similar to the one that played out for Brady Quinn at the 2007 NFL Draft, when the touted quarterback saw himself slip out of the top 10, where many analysts had projected that he would be taken. Selections kept passing without Quinn being selected and eventually he was ushered to a private room that was off limits to the press. With the immense hype surrounding Tebow, the hand-wringing that would attend his fall on draft charts would be met with considerable joy by those who are already tired of hearing his name.↵
