Around AL Central Spring Training, 3/24: The Russell Branyan Watch is On

Royals: The major news of the day is that highly regarded pitching prospect Danny Duffy is taking a leave of absence and may be leaving baseball. Although less surprising, it is now official: Alex Gordon won’t be on the Opening Day roster. Through it all, unloved Royal OF Mitch Maier has had a nice March.

White Sox: According to South Side Sox, the Opening Day roster for the Pale Hose is all but set, while the official team site reports that all Mark Teahen needed was some extra time in the minors.

Indians: The Indians, somehow, have the best Spring Training ERA of any AL team, including those that play in Florida. Have they just been playing the Royals often? Meanwhile, the Russell Branyan watch is on. Tribe skipper Manny Acta isn’t sure what the future holds.

Twins: It is a new day in Minnesota, as the Twins have signed... Ron Mahay.

Tigers: Bless You Boys breaks down the nine themes to watch from this year’s Spring Training. Jim Leyland likes what he sees in Austin Jackson. Finally, Jeff Larish has found success.
