Rams GM Calls McNabb Trade Rumors ‘Absolutely False’

A report surfaced on Wednesday afternoon that the Eagles had an offer on the table from the Rams for the services of QB Donovan McNabb.

Rams GM Billy Devaney’s response?

Absolutely false,” according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Devaney added: “It’s utterly ridiculous. I haven’t talked to Philadelphia about any of their players.”

Another Rams source said of the Eagles, “They may have a trade offer, but not from us. Why would we trade for McNabb and then go watch Bradford throw on Monday?”

Regarding that last question, it’s fairly simple, really. If the Rams were interested in acquiring McNabb for the cheapest price possible, then they would lose all leverage by publicly displaying their interest. In order to maintain leverage, they would need the public perception of the Rams quarterback future to stay on Sam Bradford, and not McNabb.

It’s also interesting to note that the first few reports of the McNabb and the Rams rumors came from Philadelphia.

Perhaps the Eagles are leaking this information to drive up the price on McNabb.
