McNabb Trade Watch: Rams Reportedly Have An Offer On The Table

Wednesday brought about a flurry of reports regarding the future of Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said on Tuesday the club is “entertaining” various offers for the Eagles quarterbacks but wouldn’t go into specifics. He did not confirm one way or the other whether they would be open to trading any of the quarterbacks.

The original asking price was believed to be two first round picks but another report has surfaced this week indicating that the price tag has been dropped to a second round selection.

That brings us up to Wednesday when Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson reported, citing multiple sources, that the Bills and Raiders have contacted the Eagles regarding McNabb's availability.

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio backed up the report that the Bills were interested but could not confirm the Raiders interest.

There was also a rumor making the rounds over the past few days that the Rams were interested in McNabb's services. That rumor turned into a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer that the Eagles now have an offer on the table for the Rams second round pick and S Oshiomogho Atogwe.

McNabb would be willing to go to the Rams if he was given a contract extension, according to a source close to the situation. He would not be willing to play for Buffalo or Oakland, two moribund franchises that might be willing to take McNabb without an extension.

Despite the report, I find it hard to believe the Bills would offer up a second round pick without a contract extension in place. The Raiders, on the other hand, traded last a year a first round pick for Richard Seymour (entering the final year of his contract) without an extension in place so they’re the wildcard (as they always are).

Of the three teams reportedly interested -- Buffalo, Oakland and St. Louis -- it would logically appear we’re down to just the Rams.

Normally players have no say in trades -- and that’s still technically the case here -- but any team trading for McNabb would almost have to enter into negotiations regarding a contract extension because he’s entering the final year of his deal.
