Rex Ryan Is The New Star Jones

Three weeks removed from undergoing lap-band surgery, Rex Ryan is seeing pronounced results. In an interview with NFL Network, the Jets head coach said he’s lost 40 pounds since having the weight loss procedure. ↵

↵↵There was a clear need for something to do be done with his weight. Ryan was clocking in at 340 lbs at the start of the 2009 season, which was a gain of 30 lbs from when the Jets hired him eight months earlier. Most likely, that figure didn’t plummet during the ensuing months through the rigors of coaching, as it had been reported that the coach was consuming roughly 7,000 calories a day.↵

↵↵Eventually he saw that it had gone too far. Along with repairing a hernia earlier this month, Ryan elected to get the lap-band surgery, where an inserted plastic band circles the patient’s stomach, in effect shrinking it to reduce appetite. As you can see from the photo, some of his chins are actually starting to disappear. At around 300 lbs. he still has a ways to go before anyone would describe him as svelte, but then again, by the time ↵he appears on Hard Knocks we may see an entirely different Rex. Oh, he’s likely to be the same ribald character, only in a somewhat trimmer package.↵
