Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 26th, Florida International's Kendall Berry was stabbed to death in the middle of the school's campus. According to the associated press, police are currently interviewing several people that "oberserved the incident," but so far, much of the incident remains cloudy.
Kendall Berry, FIU Football Star, Stabbed To Death On Campus
A 22 year-old wide receiver, Berry missed the first seven games of this past football season for Florida International, but still managed to lead the team in touchdowns with seven. After redshirting his freshman year, the 2010-2011 season would have been his senior year. It’s a crushing tragedy for the FIU football program, and the school as a whole.
And at this point, perhaps the only thing that trumps the overwhelming tragedy is the mystery: How does this happen at 9 o’clock on a Thursday night, in the middle of campus? Any murder is senseless, but the circumstances here are particularly disturbing. Florida International’s president issued the following statement:
Our hearts are heavy. Last night, we lost a well-liked student who was a tireless worker as a student, and on the ball field. Like so many of our students, Kendall Berry had positive energy, and a bright future. Last night, his grief-stricken mother described Kendall as a negotiator, not a fighter. We will not rest until the perpetrator of this crime is brought to justice. Please call our police 305-348-2626, if you have any information. In our sorrow, we must come together.
