Philadelphia’s Newest Goalie Can’t Play This Week, Has A Paper Due Wednesday

The Philadelphia Flyers have lost three goaltenders to injury this year. Most recently, fourth-string goalie Johan Backund went down with a groin pull on Saturday against Pittsburgh. With his injury, the Flyers needed somebody to ride the bench.

↵Enter emergency call-up Carter Hutton, fresh off the end of his college career at UMass-Lowell. If you’re familiar at all with how college works, though, you know that the semester ends in early May, and with it being late March still, Hutton has some priority issues.

↵For example, earlier this week when Hutton was playing with the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms, he couldn’t join the team during the week because he had class.

↵From the Glens Falls Post-Star:

↵↵Carter Hutton, a star in a win over Hershey on Sunday, is not available midweek for the rest of the season because he’s still in college at UMass-Lowell and has a seminar he can’t miss on Wednesdays. If that last sentence doesn’t sum up where the Phantoms are with goalies right now, nothing does. Hutton will be around on weekends.

↵↵Hutton wouldn’t put off class for the minor leagues, so will he for the NHL? We’ll see...
