The recently-released 27 year old Chad Gaudin has already found a new job, according to Ken Rosenthal:
Chad Gaudin Lands In Oakland
Right-hander Chad Gaudin, released by the Yankees last Thursday, did not take long to find a new team.
Gaudin, 27, reached agreement Sunday with the A’s, according to major- league sources.
Gaudin was released by New York after failing to win the fifth rotation spot in the spring. He won’t be in line for starter innings in Oakland, as the A’s currently have a full rotation, but the righty Gaudin’s fastball/slider combo has always dominated right-handed hitters, making him a specialist option in relief. His career K/BB against righties is 2.8, and only 0.8 against lefties. These struggles against left-handed hitters have been what’s kept Gaudin from establishing himself in a rotation.
Oakland’s bullpen is currently experiencing a number of aches and pains, making Gaudin an even better fit.
It is worth noting that, with Ben Sheets and Justin Duchscherer penciled into the rotation, the A's have some health concerns, meaning Gaudin could potentially serve as starter depth down the road. For the time being, however, he is to be a middle reliever.
