Lucky Number 10: Nets Beat The Spurs, 90-84. Honest.
East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Brook Lopez posted 22 points and 12 rebounds to help New Jersey pick up coveted win No. 10 on the season, as the Nets shocked the Spurs, 90-84, at IZOD Center.
The Nets were on the cusp of tying the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers for the worst record in NBA history (9-73), but a win over San Antonio, a team they had not beaten since November 13, 2002, allowed the home crowd to breathe a sigh of relief with their third victory in four games.
Courtney Lee scored 19 points and Devin Harris tallied 17 with nine assists for New Jersey, which had lost 14 straight to the Spurs.
George Hill led San Antonio with 19 points, while Richard Jefferson netted 16 against his former team.
The loss puts the Spurs a half-game behind the Thunder and Trail Blazers for the sixth position in the Western Conference and three behind fifth-place standing Phoenix.
Tim Duncan added 13 points and 12 rebounds but had a costly turnover in the waning seconds for the Spurs, who were coming off wins against Cleveland and Boston.
The Nets had just four turnovers, compared to 16 for San Antonio.
