Bright Idea Of The Day: Let’s Play The American College Hockey Championship In Canada!

Paul Kelly is best known as the former Executive Director at the NHLPA, who was suddenly fired back in late August at the beginning of what’s turned into a complete mess for the players’ union. Now, in his new job with College Hockey Inc., Kelly has the task of trying to bridge the gap between college hockey in the United States and Major Junior hockey in Canada.

↵The two institutions are at odds and have been for some time, especially as NCAA hockey continues to grow, threatening to steal more players from the Canadian junior ranks. How does Kelly want to help the situation?

↵From FanHouse:

↵↵“I’d love to hold our national championship in Toronto,” Kelly told FanHouse between periods of a recent Washington Capitals game. “I’d love to bring our game to the Mecca of hockey and show them how we play the game.”

↵↵Ignoring the fact that the Canadian major junior leagues are in direct competition with NCAA hockey and they probably wouldn’t take too kindly to their market being cornered like that, yes, let’s hold our national championship in another nation. Brilliant idea. That’s like the BCS national title game being held in Guadalajara because there’s a super big college football market there, or the Vancouver Olympic Committee deciding to hold the luge in Spokane.
