Wayne Rooney’s Injury Still Unknown, Manager Says It’s ‘Not Terribly Serious’

There is still no official word on the extent of damage to Wayne Rooney’s right ankle. The Manchester United star is expected to have a scan on the ankle this week, and early indications are that he won’t play this Saturday against rivals Chelsea.

Some glimmer of positivity comes from the team’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson:

“He has obviously hurt his ankle,” added Ferguson. “It is too early to say. I don’t think it’s terribly serious but we’ll wait and see.”

Sky Sports is reporting that Rooney is expected to be out 2-4 weeks, according to sources. Take that for what it’s worth.

We’ll have more updates as they are available.
