The California Redwoods Are No Longer Who We Thought They Were

The 49ers and A’s threaten to leave the Bay Area every so often so the locals are used to the idea of losing their beloved sports franchises. Now, one team has actually made good on that threat and abandoned the good people of San Francisco. Head coach and General Manager Dennis Green announced today that the UFL’s California Redwoods are moving to Sacramento.

↵The move means that the franchise will leave behind it’s name, it’s legacy and it’s storied tradition. The Redwoods went 2-4 last year but it was the most magical 2-4 season in Big Redz (our nickname for them) history. The new franchise’s name will be decided by fan vote. Whatever their new name, they’ll always be the Redwoods to me.

↵I just hope they maintain the Redwood’s logical color scheme of green and blue.
