Report: Celtics Sign Michael Finley For The Remainder Of The Season

According to reports, veteran shooting guard Michael Finley will sign with the Boston Celtics for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, bolstering the second unit and providing a steadying presence for the playoffs.

It’s just another case of the rich get richer old get older. On Monday, when the Finley rumors first began, we said that the Boston Celtics had officially become the New England Patriots. Any veteran with diminished skills but a “great locker room presence,” and you can count on the Celtics being interested. That was the joke, anyway.

But this is not a joke, and via Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears we have confirmation from Finley’s camp:

Finley's agent tells Y! his client will report 2 Bos on Sat. Fin could play Sunday against Wash. Cs made no playing time promises to Fin.

It's uncertain how much Finley's presence would help Boston, as he was relegated to the bench for most of his time in San Antonio this season. The Spurs eventually granted Finley his release at the guard's request. Given Finley's age and relative lack of activity this year, even the most delusional Celtics fan is entering into this with modest expectations. In fact, for now you'd have to think there's really only one goal in all of this.

His mission, should he choose to accept it? Just don't be as disastrous as Tony Allen.
