Big East Matchup, In Progress: No. 10 West Virginia Visits No. 9 Villanova
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Da’Sean Butler sank a floater in the lane with 5.7 seconds left in overtime to put West Virginia ahead, and Scottie Reynolds missed a three at the other end as the No. 10 Mountaineers held on for a 68-66 victory over No. 9 Villanova.
Butler finished with 21 points for West Virginia (24-6, 13-5 Big East), which ended its regular season with a third consecutive victory and moved into a tie for second place in the conference with the Wildcats (24-6, 13-5). Both teams had already secured double-byes into the quarterfinal round of next week’s Big East Tournament.
Wellington Smith added 15 points and Devin Ebanks scored 12 for the Mountaineers.
Reynolds had 17 points to pace Villanova, which lost four of its final six contests of the regular season. Corey Fisher hit a three-pointer at the tail end of regulation to force overtime, and ended with 12 points. Corey Stokes, whose three with half a minute to play in overtime tied the game, had 11 points.
