Martin Kampmann v. Paulo Thiago Planned For UFC 115
Las Vegas-based fighter Martin Kampmann is close to signing a deal to take on Paulo Thiago in a welterweight bout June 12 at UFC 115 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
According to sources close to the negotiations, both sides have verbally agreed to the bout and should sign official agreements as early as next week.
Both of these men fight incredibly tough schedules so this fight isn’t exactly a shock. Thiago is coming off a very impressive stoppage of Mike Swick where he dropped him standing before applying a D’arce Choke that put Swick out. The win raised Thiago’s record in the UFC to 3-1 despite facing top ten fighters in three of the four bouts.
Kampmann is certainly no slouch himself, having racked up a 7-2 record in the promotion. After dropping a TKO loss to Paul Daley, Martin came back to submit tough Jacob Volkmann at UFC 108.
The fight will likely determine the next challenger for the winner of the welterweight title bout between Georges St. Pierre and Dan Hardy.
