The 26th pick is in and SB Nation’s Cardinals community, Revenge of the Birds, has selected...
NFL Mock Draft, Pick 26: Cardinals Select Terrence Cody, DT Alabama
Alabama DT Terrence Cody
With that being said, defensive tackle is a enormous need on the defense, and the Cardinals only have Gabe Watson signed, who has yet to prove he can be a valid starter. Adding Cody’s massive size and strength would immediately improve the Cardinals’ run defense, forcing opponents to bounce runs to the outside. He’s a force to be reckoned with and will consistently draw double teams from opposing teams’ offensive linemen.
But anyone who takes Cody is taking a risk. The issues with his weight and desire are well known. More than that, though, he’s almost exclusively a two-down player. Still, Cody is a good pick.
I like this pick because it serves two purposes. First, you can’t ever have enough defensive tackles and Cody is a rare type of tackle. Second, all of a sudden the Cardinals gain some leverage in negotiations with Darnell Dockett regarding a contract extension.
I like this pick.
