In the first bout of the UFC 112 main card Mark Munoz clashed with former Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove. In the first round Grove was able to hurt Munoz with a big uppercut that dropped him to the ground. Grove continued to work for the finish, several times having deep looking chokes locked in. Munoz was able to continue to survive though the first and recover in between rounds.

Grove landed a nice knee early in the second but soon found himself on his back. Munoz was able to work vicious ground and pound to the body before eventually finding his way to more dominant position where he was able to open up with huge punches to the head, forcing Grove to turtle and the ref to step in and call a halt to the bout.
With the win Mark Munoz remains perfect at 185 pounds.
