UFC 112 Results: Frankie Edgar Shocks The World, Defeats B.J. Penn To Win UFC Lightweight Championship
It seemed that the first few rounds belonged to Penn as he was landing the harder punches and avoiding much by way of offense from Edgar. In the third round Edgar started to turn it up and Penn looked slower and had even more trouble finding him.
By the fifth round it was clear that Penn was tired while Edgar had plenty left in the tank and he closed out the fight with his best round yet. Frankie was even able to score a takedown in the middle of the final round to help cement it as a clear Edgar round.
The official scorecards were 50-45, 48-47, 49-46 all for Frankie Edgar.
SB Nation scored the fight 48-47 for B.J. Penn, giving him the first, second and fourth rounds based on more damaging strikes and less clean shots landed by Edgar, but it was clear that the judges were enamored by Edgar’s speed and movement and the fight ended with the UFC lightweight championship around the waist of Frankie Edgar.
