With Santonio Holmes reportedly facing a suspension, the question now turns to his future with the Steelers. Various reports have expressed doubt that Holmes would be a long-time Steeler because of his reported desire to play in a larger market combined with his off-the-field issues.
Possible Santonio Holmes Suspension Explains Steelers Interest In Receivers
According to SB Nation’s Steelers community, Behind the Steel Curtain, this might explain the Steelers interest in receivers in the upcoming draft.
With the draft coming up, Pittsburgh has conducted visits with five wide receivers: Notre Dame’s Golden Tate, Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant, South Florida’s Carlton Mitchell, Illinois’ Arrelious Benn, SMU’s Emmanuel Sanders. If Holmes is suspended for four games, the Steelers would be looking at a trio of Hines Ward, Mike Wallace and veteran Antwaan Randle-El to compliment Roethlisberger and TE Heath Miller.
Both Tate and Bryant would likely have to be selected with the Steelers first round pick if they wanted a shot at him (absent a trade).
