Taking The Lord’s Name In Vain: A Tradition Like None Other

Australia’s Robert Allenby has not had a very fun Masters tournament. Through twelve holes in the fourth round, he sits at 47th of 48 on the leaderboard, 23 strokes behind the lead.

↵In one respect, though, he’s tied for the lead. On Saturday, noted golfing enthusiast Tiger Woods famously uttered a “G** damn it” on-air. Minutes ago, Allenby just tied for the lead on the 11th hole after he hit a bad shot out of the rough, offering a “G** damn it” of his own to his lapel microphone.

↵Not many people saw it, though, since early Round 4 tee times generally aren’t televised. You’re missing out. For instance, Retief Goosen bogeyed the fifth hole, announced he was “going home,” walked a few feet past the tree line, construct a crude lean-to, crawled underneath, and fell asleep. When judges attempted to confront him, he growled and bared his teeth. Judges have now declared the 20-foot perimeter surrounding Retief Goosen a hazard.
