Roy Halladay Is Probably Going To Enjoy The National League

Did you know that the American League recorded a higher overall SLG% than the National League in nine of the past 10 seasons? And did you know that the A.L. has posted a better OPS than the N.L. in every single year since 1976, when they tied?

I bet Roy Halladay knew.

Halladay spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays. That means for 12 years, he was facing a designated hitter, instead of a pitcher batting in the ninth spot. And he still was dominant, throwing at least five complete games in four of his final five years in the A.L., recording over 200 strikeouts in both 2008 and 2009 and posting an ERA+ of 133 during his 12 years in Toronto. Now, the five-time All-Star and 2005 Cy Young award winner is pitching in the National League, with the Phillies. Here’s how that’s gone so far, after Halladay’s two starts, including Sunday’s complete game effort against the Astros:

16 IP, CG, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 17 K, 2 Wins

Uh, so, yeah ... sorry, National League.
