Rich Franklin v. Chuck Liddell Made Official For UFC 115

Despite repeated assurances from Dana White that Chuck Liddell would be meeting Tito Ortiz following the completion of the current season of The Ultimate Fighter the UFC today made Liddell vs. Rich Franklin official. The change in plans has been rumored for weeks with some rumors of a Chuck Liddell vs. Randy Couture fight at UFC 116 surfacing.

UFC president Dana White has gone as far as to guarantee publicly that the originally planned Liddell/Ortiz fight was going down. But then pictures of the Ultimate Fighter set with a Rich Franklin picture having replaced Ortiz surfaced which seemed to lend legitimacy to the idea that the plans were changing.

Now we know that we’re getting the former UFC middleweight champion facing the former UFC light heavyweight champion. It’s certainly a more compelling fight than the Ortiz bout but there are a lot of questions as to why the UFC would not be up front with the change in plans before now.
